2. GARI MELCHERS, Esq.

Matters have not turned out quite as much our way as I had hoped, but I think everything will pan out all right. You see the President is willing to give you two sittings of three hours each on two different Sundays, but only one hour each on the week-days. Now, I am quite sure that you and he will mix perfectly, and all will end to the complete satisfaction of us all. The chances are that he will give you a thoroughly well-lighted and quiet room in the White House in which to work, and considering the scarcity of suitable rooms in Washington, particularly at this time of the year, you may after all find the White House the very best of all places.

I have engaged rooms for us both at the New Willard, and shall go on from Detroit tonight, arriving at the Willard at about five o’clock tomorrow Thursday afternoon. Let us meet and dine together tomorrow night.

The meeting on Friday morning will be an important one, and I am hoping that no obstacles will interfere or disappointments follow.

With all good messages, I am,

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L Freer
