My dear Senator Smith:-

May I respectfully call your attention to and perusal of, the newspaper clippings enclosed herein. I believe that these editorials fairly present the views of a large majority of the most intelligent citizens of our state, and should they coincide with your own feelings, I trust, that you can consistently use your influence for the adoption of the Newland's bill and in aid of erecting the Lincoln memorial along the Potomac, as originally planned.

With my kind messages, believe me,
Very sincerely yours,
Charles L. Freer

Honorable Williams Alden Smith,
United States Senator,
Washington,
D.C.
