180 (X) March 27, 1894. Messrs. Knauth, Nachod, & Kuhne, Custom House & Forwarding Dep’ts, 5 & 7 South William St., New York. Gentlemen: Your letter of March 24 addressed to Frank J. Hecker is received and in his absence opened by the writer. Mr. Hecker is now in Italy and while he is away I am looking after his personal affairs. Because of his absence it will be impossible to obtain his declaration before a deputy collector here until he reaches Detroit, which will not occur until July next. Will you not therefore kindly have the goods covered by the documents received from you forwarded in bond to Detroit with all charges, as we prefer to have the goods stored here rather than in your city. Awaiting your reply, I remain, Yours truly, C. L. Freer
