Sept. 17, 1894.

Dear Mr. Keppel:

Notwithstanding your directions to answer not your kind letter of Aug. 26, I must send you my acknowledgments. I appreciate greatly your kindness in sending me the Whistler clippings and particularly the fact that I am so often in your mind.

Yes, I have decided to free myself from work for a year and seek rest and pleasure in the old world. On Saturday next I shall sail for Genoa on the “Kaiser Wilhelm”, and after spending a couple of months in Italy, France, and England, I shall go to India for the winter and to Japan for next spring and summer. I hope to have a fine time. I wish it were possible to meet you in London and Paris, but this I fancy cannot be.

If time permits, I shall call upon you some time during Friday or Saturday morning next, but if I am prevented, let me now say “good bye” and extend my best wishes for the health of yourself and family and for the continued happiness of all.

Yours faithfully,
Charles L. Freer

Mr. Frederick Keppel,
20 East 16th St.,
New York.
