538 (530) May 1[[?]]/98. Messrs Yamanaka & Co. 20 West 27th St. New York Gentlemen: I have your letter of 13th inst. returning voucher properly receipted, also inclosing your check, payable to my order, for $25.00. As there seems to have been a misunderstanding as to what was said regarding price of the goods purchased, I feel a hesitation in accepting the $25.00 you have sent. However, I will deposit a check, and when I am next in New York I will bring with me the original pencil memorandum of the transaction, and we will then settle the matter to the satisfaction of us both. I have tried the incense and find it very agreeable. I appreciate the desire expressed to present me the same, but I really feel you are over-generous, so kindly charge the three boxes to my account, Yours very truly, Charles L. Freer
