Dr. T.B. Thomas,
Of Waldorf-Astoria Hotel,
New York.

Dear Sir:

I have your polite note of 24th inst. and thank you for having taken the trouble to write me about the little occurrence in the Cafe on the evening of my departure. The facts are as follows:

Having paid my bill at the desk and as I was leaving New York at six o'clock, I ordered a light lunch in the Cafe and being short of time I asked the head waiter to have it hurried, which he did and assigned an excellent waiter to serve me. As a rule I have restaurant tickets charged to my account, but having settled my bill. I handed the waiter a $10.00 bill. He brought me change for a $5.00 bill instead and I called his attention it once to the error.
He went to the Cashier's desk and the Cashier promptly sent him back saying that I had given him $5.00, not $10.00. The head waiter overheard the conversation, attempted to straighten out the matter, and requested me to wait a few moments until the cash could be proved, but if I stopped I would certainly have missed the train, and so I said to him, telling him at the same time that I was positive of the denomination of the hill than given the waiter.
I could not have been mistaken on the matter because of the fact that in the pocket from which I took the money I had nothing but three $10.00 bills, the nest of my money being in my trainers pocket. I was talking with Mr. [[Baganave]] at the time and might have been mistaken but for the fact that I verified the rocket from which I took the money and checked it against the amount remaining.
Also, for another reason. Some time ago a similar mistake happened in the same room and curiously though [[?]] like [[?]]
