stances. I had paid my bill, was taking a light supper before going to the train, had a friend with me, gave the waiter a $10.00 bill and he brought me change for a five. I asked for a correction of the error, and it was duly made. The instance of last Monday evening is strangely enough the first time I have paid a Cafe account since the time of the first error, and having it in mind, I took particular notice of the denomination of the bill I gave the waiter.

I write you these particulars simply because you asked for them. The amount at stake is of no consequence to me and I would not have it in any wise affect the waiter or Cashier. I am sure they were mistaken, and innocently at that. Had I thought otherwise, I should certainly have reported the matter to you or Mr. Palmer before leaving the hotel. I appreciate the importance of matters of this sort to the management, and of course want to lend whatever assistance I can consistently to the discipline of the hotel. At the same time, I do not wish to see any of those poor fellow discharged on my account.

Yours truly,
Charles L. Freer
