Mr. W. N. Ostrander,
Indian River, Mich.

Dear Sires-

I am in receipt of your favor of the 9th instant together with the four samples of rock ore, which you asked me to examine. I have submitted them to a Mining Expert in this city who reports that they contain mica in small quantities, too small to be of any value whatever. The yellow color is given to the mica by burning. The mineralogist also informs me that rock containing these small particles of mica is found plentifully throughout Michigan.

I regret that the ore is of no value, but am pleased to have asked it over for you.

Yours truly,
Charles L Freer
