August 22nd, 1898.

Mr. Ralph LeFevre,
Proprietor, "The New Paltz Independent",
New Paltz, N.Y.

Dear Sir:-

The Package of "Independents" was duly received and I have read the same with much interest. Permit me to become a subscriber to your paper and grant me the further privilige of remitting to you for the papers you have already sent. I enclose herewith post office order for four dollars. I am assuming that half of this sum will pay for the papers you have already sent and the remainder will be for one years subscription to your paper.

I am considerably interested in the memorial proposed at New Paltz for the early settlers. If you will write me the particulars and let me know the sum you desire to raise for the purpose, I will be pleased to send a contribution.

Yours very truly,
Charles L Freer
