O U Y The vowels A E I O U and Y are used to classify the names, so that five-sixths of the time is saved in looking for a name. This is effected by writing the name in the column where its first vowel appears. Thus, Chas. Ford, under O; Miller & Metcalf, under I. Half the time can be saved in indexing by writing with indelible pencil instead of ink, thus doing away with the blotters and their repeated turning. V W Voree, A.D. 404. 564. Woodford, W.R. 101. 106. 217. 502. Woodford, M.D. 417. Worcester, E.D. 591. 610.
