NARA 657

Burlington, Boone Co. Ky, May 21st 1877.

Capt. H.S. Hawkins,
Louisville, Ky,

Dr Sir:
There is no telegraph line nearer this place than Covington, Ky, I could not have Emaline Smith in Covington, Ky, under less than two days notice at this place, there is a daily mail from Covington to Burlington. I would have to go after Emaline in person, part of the distance by rail and the balance by some other conveyance. You have seen the old lady Emaline Smith could you not let her. Henry Bostwick U.S. Clerk hear such other proof as you think might be necessary and then pay her and take her receipt or voucher in you name, Yours respectfully
G.G. Hughes.
