Albany July 2nd 1827
Dear Sir
I received the Painting and first impression of the plate of [[Mr Pattroom ??]] this day at 2 oclock It appears very well for the first impression and I have attended to make some corrections but find it difficult on account [[^ of]] the general dark grey appearance throughout the proof which will probably be [[obviated ?]] on further progress my touches want transparency owing to the darkness of the impression perhaps you had better make the ground a little darker to give a better relief to the [[head or land?]] The shades are rather black and the coat rather light it has been suggested that some little improvement may be made in the painting
I shall call on Mr. [[Pattroom ?]] tomorrow morning and if 'tis [[^ possible]] to improve the picture the sooner the better and shall forward it by the [[Constitution?]] on Friday morning--you may observe there is a wildness in [[^ the eyes of ]] your impression not in the painting
I am sincerely Yours A Dickinson
