time in Newark N.J. going from there to Pompton to a farm and mill--one of his daughters, now a widow married Mr Peter Ballentine of the [[?]] brewing concern Ballentine Brewing Co. [[inserted copy: Newark N.J]] a letter addressed to her c/o of the BB.Co. would undoubtedly reach her. She has residence in Newark but is seldom there as she travels about. A son, William Linen was Cashier of a bank in Western N.Y. One son died at Pompton abt two years ago--Linen practiced with special vehicles, which he kept formula of entirely to himself-- frequently refused to paint a single portrait - unless the applicant would get at least a check of six for him--an acquaintance who knew him is away just now, but will be accessible before long.
Mr Gilbert Stewart drawing, I will when time permits, have photographed--from the back & send you impression. The article in Harper's I liked but thought the plate from your copy was not as good as might be had from the canvas, if in average order.
With best wishes
Sincerely yours
Jon Falconer
