Malden, Mass. March 13. 53.
N. B. Durand Esq.
New York.
Dear Sir,
Not knowing the name of the secretary of your National Academy, I take the liberty of addressing you.
I wish to be informed of the day of opening the exhibition and at how late a date pictures will be received. I have a landscape which requires about one week to finish and if there is time will endevour to send it - the size is 40 by 52 inches.
Will you favor me with such particulars as are necessary in the case - giving me the address of Institution &c.
Excuse me for troubling you in this matter & reply at your earliest convenience.
Our Exhibition in Boston does not much thrive - the reason is not that the Pictures are not interesting but is I fear because there is no enthusiasm for art.
I remain dear sir, very respectfully
Your obt. servt.
Saml. L. Gerry.
