Col. John Trumbull,

My Dear Sir

   I have to plead very culpable neglect in omiting to write to you, either to resign my place as a Director in the Academy of which you are President, or inform you of the probable length of my absence - Indeed it was due to your Station and the many polite attentions I have received, to have acknowledged them long ere this; but whatever is procrastinated is seldom ever accomplished -- I have waited until I could say with some certainty when I may return to New York, and find that time still defered; my present engagements will occupy me until May or June, later than that I cannot remain in this climate, and am uncertain whether I shall Visit the Virga. Springs or return to the North, under any circumstances I think it my duty to resign my seat at your Board and do hereby authorize you to tender my resignation as a director of the A. Academy of the Fine Arts, with
