A clear morning with a little snow and ice on everything. Took a carriage to the falls. The fellow charged a 25ยข & took me around a mile to reach the falls some 20 rods from hotel - 
Went down the stairway to foot of falls  Stones were so icy I could hardly stand. A cloud of spray rolls up from the fall & is like rain for a long way off. There is always a rainbow in it when the sun shines. 
Went over on Bath Id. toward Goat Id. the 3 sisters & to

all the points of special interest -
Went down a winding stair about 75 feet & to Cave of the winds. did not dare go under the falls far, the rocks & stair were so icy it seemed dangerous. 
There are not many visitors now & some places are closed. The steamer, Maid of the Mists, is in a dry dock on bank. 
The rapids above the falls for about 1/4 mile fall from 40 to 55 feet. They are a series of low falls. They begin at upper end of Goats Is. The fall is clear from
