[[preprinted]] 16 [[/preprinted]] Antigua #6 many interesting things about the islands of Anguilla & S [[strikethrough]] an [[/strikethrough]]t. Martin -- where their family home used to be. Anguilla is not such a small island, and is bigger in acreage than Montserrat, but it is not so well known as it is not on the line of steamship travel. It is also less densely populated. [[margin]] Thurs July 30 [[/margin]] After breakfast I went to town. I had several things I wanted to get at the drug store, and I wanted to do some looking around. The only drug store I was in didnt impress me very much. However, there is another one which I did not visit and chances are that it might be better. I think it will be a case of merely finding the best places to shop, as there must be more of a demand for things on this island. The place where we can get films developed will do the developing free if we buy the films there. If not the price is 1 shilling for developing and 4d a print. In the afternoon I did some more straightening out and making myself at home. I also did some mending, and I find that my stockings have developed more runs than necessary, which is very discouraging. We have been enjoying the radio, as reception has been exceptionally good. In the morning I went to the dress maker to have her alter the dress made in Dominica -- the white one. Her name is Gomes & they pronounce it as if it rimed with "comes" -- she is of Portuguese descent. There seem to be a number of Portuguese here in Antigua, and they seem to be very energetic people. I went to the Self Help to look around. I believe it is the nicest I've been in -- from the standpoint of price. They also have very nice things. I believe I also got a bargain in stamps. The rest of the morning and afternoon was spent on the Journal. Dick is working on his motor. [[margin]] Saturday August 1 [[/margin]] The first of the month seems to come around fairly rapidly. I went to town with Mrs Mason this morning. We went to the Market and I saw the butcher shops there -- very little better than those in the dirty Mexican markets -- such fly traps wouldn't be allowed in an American market. The fruit and vegetables are arranged on pieces of calico spread on the ground. One interesting piece which specially [[end page]]
