[[preprinted]] 32 [[/preprinted]] [[underlined]] Antigua #22 [[/underlined]] Rey said,"Mrs Shepperd has just been in my room." Mrs Mason asked her if it had frightened her, and she said "No, but you will hear tomorrow that Mrs Shepperd is dead". Of course Mrs Mason dismissed it all with a laugh. However, this morning Mrs Shepperd was dead, [[underlined]] and [[/underlined]] she died at 9 o'clock [[insertion]] in the evening [[/insertion]] -- just a few minutes before Miss Rey claimed she saw her. To say the least, it was a peculiar coincidence. Mrs Shepperd was burried at 4:30 this afternoon. She had a large funeral, and everyone says the flowers were lovely. Mrs Mason went to the funeral, but Addie and Miss Rey stayed home, the latter because she could not go. Miss Rey told me this afternoon that the body of anyone dying in Antigua may not be removed from the island. This has worked a hardship on many people. Jikes came in for tea again to day, and after tea he was friendly enough, but as yet will not permit [[strikethrough]] anyone [[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] us [[/insertion]] to scratch his head. He will carefully take food from me, but that is the limit to his friendliness. However I'm going at it slowly and in time he'll like it -- I hope. We went out on the motor -- dressed for the swim with our "cycle clothes" over our bathing suits. We didn't get much swimming done as there were too many jelly fish floating around. We got a few shells, but we didn't stay on the beach long as there were too many sand flies. In the evening I went to the movies with Mrs Mason, Addie & Mr Frost. We saw "Broadway Melody of 1936". It was good -- what there was of it -- but [[underlined]] very [[/underlined]] badly cut. Entrance 1 shilling. [[margin]] Wed, Aug 19. [[/margin]] After breakfast Dick & I went out insect hunting, and altho we rode over 10 miles we had very poor success. For some reason or other I got very tired. When we got home I lay down on the bed & before I knew it I was asleep -- not soundly tho' as I woke up easily. I didn't have much luck in getting to sleep in the afternoon. After tea Mrs Mason & I went to see Addie play her tournament finals against Irena Goodwin. Addie lost 8-6; 6-2. I met Mrs Wright and later on Mrs Foote. After the tournament we played bridge with Mrs Foote & Daphne Waldwin. Dick & I did a little on stamps in the evening, but I was tired & went to bed early. [[end page]]
