of him. What brought about this conversation was Mr Birch's appearance at the club in an inebriated condition, which settled my suspicions about him. 
In the evening after supper we went over to the Goodall's to play bridge. Miss Blanche Evelyn was there and our 4 was made up of her, Miss Goodall & later Mrs Mac, Mr Drayton & myself. Later in the evening we had cake & delicious orange ade. Mrs Goodall sent a piece of cake home to Dick. It was almost 12 before I got to sleep.

Up early this morning, as we went to Frigate Bay with Mr Drayton. Our party consisted of Mr Hazlett, Mr Drayton, Mrs Mac, Dick & me. All of us, except for Mr Hazlett were very interested in picking up shells, but because he wasn't helping us he saw, [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] and pointed out to us, the hugest Giant Ray I've ever seen. We had a nice swim and walk along the beach. The beach at the eastern end of frigate bay is very nice and sandy, and there were heaps of nice shells. Later, we

came up the bay to the bathing hut where we met Miss Burt, Mrs King, Mr Graves, Mrs Wigley, and Mrs Waldwin. Here Dick & Mr Drayton did some diving for sand dollars. While they were thus engaged, Mr Graves brought me his hat with a "beast" which had crawled into it. It proved to be a 6 in. centipede. I at once emptied the shells out of the tin box, and we dumped the centipede into it. When [[strikethrough]] I [[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] we [[/insertion]] got home Dick drowned it in a jug of alcohol. 
As we were leaving the beach the two boys from the "Bachelors" asked us to come up for egg nogs. The two fellows names are Wilson & "Saucy" Williams. We had egg nogs -- which were excellent -- and rum punches. That is one of each for me. We were a little late for lunch, and I spent the afternoon resting. 
We were shown a card trick, but not told how to work it. It was supposed to be very difficult but it only took us 40 minutes to figure it out. The description of it is in Dick's journal.

Cant remember having done much to day. The actual solution of the card trick ^ [[insertion]] by means of a formula [[/insertion]] occupied most of the morning. I did
