St. Kitts #20
was busily making a fish net.
The people in St Kitts - to digress a little - seem to be among the more industrious types of West Indian negro. It is not at all uncommon to see women walking along making fish nets as they go, and I've even seen a crippled beggar so engaged.
We went to the movie "The Apollo" to see a Gaumont picture entitled "Son of Kong". I rather enjoyed it altho' it was a little crude.

Spent part of the morning mending and bringing this journal up to date.
After tea we went (this is what comes of trying to copy from Dick's journal!) - the events he tells of here happened on [[underlined]] Sunday. [[/underlined]]
After tea (to begin again) I went up to the club to play tennis. I played with Mrs Birch and Agnes. No mixed doubles today at all. Agnes' aunt has loaned me a racket which is just the weight I like - plus a small handle - so my game is very much improved.
In the evening we played bridge. As usual we had a lot of visitors sitting around and talking at & to the bridge players.

We got home earlier this time & Mr Elliott & Mr Drayton came in for coffee and we sat and talked about two proposed trips. One down to Salt Pond on Sat. and the other one up Mt Misery - which I wont go on.
Mr Elliott once lived in St Croix so he had a few things to tell us about the island.
In the afternoon, after tea, a bunch of us went up to call on Mrs ^ [[insertion]] Allen(?) [[/insertion]] Thurston (Miss Annie). She was most anxious to show Dick her house, which is one of the most up to date on the island - Dick has a description of it in his book - but even then it is a far cry from what [[underlined]] can [[/underlined]] be done.
She asked us to come up to bridge tomorrow and I said I would, provided we could play indoors away from the mosquitoes. Some of the people always want
