[[margin]] Oct 27 Tues. [[/margin]]
This is the day we leave. I went out to see about the stamps this morning and I bought $15. worth. The old fellow had a nice bargain to offer me.
We also got a bundle of mail.
Packing did not seem so hard this time, but I must confess that I do not know where things are - as I usually do. However, we got everything in.
After dinner a lot of our St Kitts friends gathered to tell us goodbye - it was quite a send off and very nice of them. Marian MacDonald gave me a bottle of Eau de Cologne - very nice indeed. She is a nice youngster and it is a shame that her mother can't afford to give her a few more advantages. Mrs Mac would very much like to send her away to school.
We left on the "Nerissa" about 8 o'clock. This is the last trip I expect to take on her. I know we will miss such a nice ship. Mr Hughes - a travelling man - left on the "Nerissa" with us. I believe he is going to St Croix.
Basseterre looks very nice from the sea. The town is well lighted, and the esplanade is one long row of lights.

As a finishing touch to St Kitts I must tell something of the people I met. Miss Burt (the librarian) and Mrs King are sisters. Mr King & Mrs Thurston are brother & sister, and Mrs Birch is Mrs Thurston's niece. The Kings have 2 sons, one is a don at Oxford and the other is 15 and in school in England. The elder son is a consultant of the Br Foreign office on International Law.
Miss Yarwood's mother was an Evelyn.
Mrs MacDonald, and Miss Goodall are sisters. The other sister was Mrs Steward who first owned the hotel - she died in Barbados while we were there.
Mrs Wigley is the mother of Frank Wigley in Antigua, and the wife of the judge whom we met in Montserrat.
Mrs Duncan (Mazie) of Antigua is a cousin of Mrs MacDonald.
Dr MacFadyen of Nevis - he used to live in Anguilla - was at the hotel for a few days. He is a nice man, but too conscientious. These people would work him to death if they could. He and his wife came from Prince Edward I originally, and altho' they have
