[[preprinted]] 126 [[/preprinted]] St Croix #26 Mr Beatty there and I used his Graphlex camera twice to take pictures of him Dick and "the Phantom. We went aboard the SS Mary and sailed after 2:15. I was very surprized to find our cabin as nice as it was. It had 2 beds and a nice tiled bath. The boat rolls quite a bit so we spent most of our time in a horizontal position until we got to St Thomas. The 2nd officer of the Mary seems very interested in motorcycles and he spent a while before sailing telling Dick about motorcycling in Europe. He took care of the motor which went to Puerto Rico a week before us. He said Mr Bailey was not there to meet it, which surprized Dick, but we later learned why. I almost forgot to mention the Danish Merchant Marine trainning ship which came in to Fredericksted. It is a 3 masted auxilliary schooner - square rigged - and a lovely thing it is when it comes sailing in. It was here several days and there were numerous entertainments for the boys & officers. Naturally most of the entertaining was [[end page]] [[start page]] [[preprinted 127 [[/preprinted]] done by the Danish families. Everyone seemed to enjoy having them. There are many things to say in favor of St Croix, but I would also say that there is one thing it very badly needs - a small but good hotel. I believe we were lucky to get with Miss Fleming - after some things I heard about Coulters & Penthany's - but even that left much to be desired. [[underlined]] St. Thomas. [[/underlined]] We arrived in St Thomas just before dinner time and we took a taxi trip up to the 1829. On the way up to 1829 we passed what looked like a very nice restaurant. When we got to the hotel we found it very crowded and we had to eat at Mr Taylor's table, which was nice in a way as we had quite a nice visit with him. Mr Taylor told us that the restaurant was Kreugers - it is below the Public Library - and that she was hoping to open a hotel soon.
