Puerto Rico #12.

station and we drive right out to their house at the Experiment Station.
Mrs Oakley was waiting for us at home and had a lovely dinner waiting for us. I felt very chagrined at our late arrival, and probably would have felt even more so had our hostess not been Mrs Oakley.
She is a pretty doll-like person; very friendly and easy to know; not a worry wart; and a few hours more or less would mean little to her. She certainly made me feel right at home.
Their maid had gone home so that Fern had to do all the waiting on table etc. She would not let me help. After dinner we talked a while and then to bed. We heard the baby but did not see her.
Dr Danforth came in just as we were sitting [[strikethrough]] dawn [[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] down [[/insertion]] to dinner. He is very much younger than I expected, so much that I couldnt believe I had heard correctly when I was introduced. He seems very shy and ill at ease, and he didnt speak to me at all, except to say "hello goodbye". It is rumored that he is petticoat shy.

Got up a little after 7 so Dick & Dr Danforth could go on a collecting expedition. I helped a little with breakfast as the maid had not yet arrived. However there was little I could do.
After the men went off to work we started to do the dishes but the maid arrived. B.G. or Billie, otherwise known as Arline - the Oakley's little girl - was very shy at breakfast, but that soon wore off and we soon were hitting it off very well. She is 3 years and 5 months - birthday in August - and quite a talker when she gets started.
Mrs H. Atherton Lee came by and wanted to know if we wanted to [[strikethrough]] kno [[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] go to [[/insertion]] the hospital to inquire about Bobby Horn. The Horns live next door to the Oakleys, and Dick had dinner at their house last year. The Horn's little boy, Bobbie, was taken violently ill a few nights ago and when they called the Dr he said it was some kind of toxic poisoning. The poor little fellow was in a coma most of the time and had been unable to retain anything. From what I hear they very nearly lost him.
