a mixture of [[red underline]] dioxydiphenyl ethane (obtained from acetaldehyde + phenol). [[/red underline]] with 20% of its weight of hexamethylentetramine added to it. I told him to determine the following:
1/ Does dioxydiphenyl methane make an additive compound with hexa
2/ Try the same thing with dioxydiphenyl methane
3/ Ditto with dioxy [[strikethrough]] dip [[/strikethrough]] dimethyldiphenylmethane (Dianin's compound)
4/ Try to make the varnish with the "Dianin" compound (dioxydimethyldiphenyl methane and also with dioxydiphenylmethane
5/ Try again using paraform instead of hexa in the making of the varnish
6/ Try using methylenchloride

instead of hexa.
April 2. Busy here all day working at [[red underline]] tabernacle [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] and arranging my notes [[/strikethrough]]
April 3 (Sunday) Here all day. Sunny mild pleasant spring day
April 4. Here all day.
It occured to me that ethyliden chloride CH3-CHCl2 may be [[red underline]] made to react instead of methylen bodies in the different [[/red underline]] reactions which engender bakelite or Novolak
I told Gothelf to try to react with [[red underline]] ethyliden chloride [[/red underline]] propyliden chloride on phenol, on Novolak on dioxydiphenyl methan on dioxydiphenylethan etc.
April 5. Beautiful day. Here all day. Lewis working on [[red underline]] tabernacle [[/red underline]]
