We left Spuyten Duivel about 3:30 P.M and arrived at anchor on [[red underline]] Manhasset Bay [[/red underline]] about 2½ hours later. Beautiful weather. On the way stopped to see the Typhoon at anchor  a well built little ship.

Went out sailing with dinghy and [[red underline]] leeboard [[/red underline]] which permits more latitude against the wind. Evening

[[red underline]] Townsend and his son Blake [[/red underline]] came aboard. Warm day.

Another warm day 90°F in my cabin but feels comfortable altho' there is no wind. Blake came aboard for lunch. Afternoon went sailing in dinghy. Evening [[red underline]] Dr. Jacoby, [[/red underline]] professor astronomy Columbia came aboard and I visited his houseboat "Barnacle"

Went to Perth Amboy.
Prof Jacoby was kind enough to drive me to station. At Perth Amboy ([[red underline]] Townsend, [[/red underline]] Barret and Davis accompanied me) I suggested to Townsend and the others to make a molding mixture of [[black underline]] graphite [[/black underline]], [[red underline]] bakelite and powdered metals for dynamo brushes [[/red underline]] which idea seemed to interest [[red underline]] Townsend [[/red underline]] so order was given to start experiments after the expert on carbon brushes of Carbide Co had met Rossi
