  ---

Morning warmer & rainy wind still N.E. About noon it increased to a severe gale & the sea became very rough making the ship roll terribly which continued all day. Waves often broke over the stern the bow shipping water every time. Are supposed to be passing the Cape though no land is visible. The passengers are generally calm but some old sea captains fear we may spring a leak by the great strain.

Day very cold with a west wind and clouds flying over - Was taken with a chill in the morning which lasted till night & was followed by the usual fever & afterwards sweating. A large flock of Gulls approached to-day apparently all L. argent.
