We are having much snow. During the last 3 days all of 12 inches of snow has fallen accompained by very little wind.
Usually when it snows in this Country, it is during a gale. There is one excellent thing to be considered in this matter. When there is a large a quantity of snow on the ice it betokens an early dissolution of it (the ice).
To-day I have been reading & investigating F.L. McClintock's Journal of his sledge journey from Dealey Island in 1853 as recorded in work given me by my estimable friend Mr. Grinnell titled "Further papers to the Recent Arctic Expeditions in Search of Sir John Franklin & the Crews of H.M.S. Erebus & Terror"

issued in 1855.
McClintock was absent 105 days & travelled 1210 geographical miles.
One important matter I cannot make out though I have tried hard - that is from what meridian he Times his Chronometer. In his table of Astronomical Observations * find the words over the Chronometer Column "Error Slow". Error Slow on what Time? that is what I cannot make out.
It cannot be from Greenwich Time or Dealy Island Time where the "Resolute" had anchorage. I have investigated as well as my ability will enable & I have to give it up.
Why did not McClintock enter in said table the Key to this matter? is the question with me.

One of An-na-wa's dogs was killed by some of its companions last night. The same was cooked & eaten by the Innuits to-night.

During a part of the night a strong wind from the N.W.: but the greater part moderate breeze.
At the close of yesterday's record I noted the fact of Innuits eating the dog of Annawa's, killed in a fight with its companions on Monday night. Conversing with 1st Mate Rogers this morning on the subject, he said that during the winter of [[space]] when Capt b. with 11 others prosecuted what is termed the "Shore Fishing" at Kir-mik-su-it Northumberland Inlet, he (R.) in company with To-to (brother of Tuk-oo-li-too) made a journey by sledge to King-wa (it took two

days to go from the former to the latter place). While at King-wa, Mate Rogers while in an Igloo was entertained by the Innuits with a cooked supper. After it, To-to remarked to him that what he (R) had so heartily eaten was dog!
Mate R. supposed it was the leg of a rabbit or Fox that was passed to him. He says that he felt no [[underlined]] qualm [[/underlined]] on being told it was dog that he had filled himself with. He (R) declares that will never die in this country for the want of something to eat so long as dogs are around!
This the anniversary of the Battle at New Orleans 8th year. General Jackson the hero of that event! Long live his memory.
One year ago to-day that the noble Innuit woman Nuk-er-tou died, with no one present but myself.
