This Morning at X O'Clk Ebierbing, Tuk-oo-li-too with infant started off for Budington Bay - they were accompanied by Gardiner & Keeney.
The young man Innuit, "Bony Squash", who has no father or mother living, went with the company. This young Innuit is the one that formerly lived with the Ang-e-ko who has 2 wives. He (B.S.) found his way last winter to our little village of Igloos when he was nearly starved.
Ebierbing had dogs & sledge & his effects on the latter. Gardiner & Keeney placed their

bags of clothing & beds theron.
The travelling is now good, the snow having been driven into hard ridges & wreaths by the late gale.
Tuk-oo-li-too & Ebierbing called on me just as they were about leaving. They were treated to a mug of coffee each. I done up a portion of my little bag of sugar & gave to Tuk-oo-li-too. By Capt. B.'s leave I gave Tuk-oo-li-too also 4 Cakes of Sea bread (1 lb.) wh. I knew would be very acceptable.
As Capt B. was ready with his poultices for the poor sufferer forward, I bid my good children a kindly 'Good bye' & accompanied him (Capt B.). Found the feet smoking amid the pile of cloths that enveloped them.

The appearance of the limbs same as yesterday. Toes [[underlined]] all dead [[/underlined]] & as I think considerable portions of the bottom of the feet. To-morrow Capt. B. amputates.
While engaged dressing the feet Capt B. asked "Spikes" who was seated by the stove amid the forward hands: If he (S) was not something of a Surgeon? "Spikes", in his own quaint way answered that: 'he was not for any case like that of Flukers, but when Duff was before him you might then consider that he (S) was round!' The remark can be better appreciated when I state that Spikes is a greater eater (can equal any 3 ordinary men) & is [[underlined]] exceedingly fond of "Duff". [[/underlined]] The remark by Spikes caused loud bursts of laughter all around - not excepting Fluker.
Capt. B. feels terribly about the feet of Fluker. He dreads the performance of the operation wh. he is necessitated to do.
