In addition to a design staff, Mr. Schwartz has eleven buyers (and he makes twelve) who travel the world in search of the best skins. "There isn't an aspect of the fur world that we don't cover," he states. "We go to the Far East, Mid-East, South America, all of Europe, Canada, and the U.S. We go to Russia, but it's no longer terribly important. On the other hand, Mainland China is growing. It's a great resource for furs of many animals of which I have never heard."

Mr. Schwartz observes that today's active woman owns a fur coat and is interested in a second fur――a jacket. "We've come up with a tremendous range of furs and we're merchandizing them as a product of mine called 'Freddy's.' They generally are medium priced furs. We cover over 72 product categories ranging in price from $500 to $5,000 and over. The biggest sellers are Mink, Fox, and Raccoon, followed by Lynx, Coyote, Nutria and Beaver."
 
Mr. Schwartz spends his leisure hours at home in Long Island where he lives with his wife and four children. His oldest son and daughter are already in the business and his youngest son is learning as it as Fred did when he was a boy. "We're a really hard-working company," says the furrier. "We don't just sell furs. We work with the customer into the future. We have a full storage operation, we clean service, repair, counsel and reappraise. We are, I think, the most exciting fur store in the world, and the largest retail fur company in New York, specializing in updated interpretations of classic furs. We have many celebrity clients――including Princess Margaret――and half the people at the UN have bought from us. Now we're in the process of expanding the Fur Vault around the country. We'll be opening soon in many other cities." [[square symbol]]
