President Seth Low,
Columbia University, City of New York.

Dear Sir:

I hasten to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of June twenty-seventh announcing the result of the Loubat Competition. It affords me great satisfaction to learn that my work of the past few years has the seal of approval from so high a source as the committee named; and it is especially gratifying to have the award come through your great ^[[I]]nstitution and from a patron of anthropologic science ^[[who is]] without a peer in the history of the country.
I shall be glad to comply with the requirements of regulation No. 7 and will forward five copies of the work as soon as they are returned from the bindery.
Thanking you for your part in this matter and for your words of commendation,
I am,
Very sincerely yours
^[[W. H. Holmes]]
