(?)major, (underlined) Apr. 16, 1960, III 23 (she only retains one small patch of "in feathers" on the top of her crown). The size difference between the two birds is still as conspicuous as ever, or even more so. There is also a plumage difference between them. Hrr's back & rump plumage is heavily banned with black, while M's is not. (?) major, (underlined), I. April 17, 1960 Barro Colorado I tested the birds' reactions to sound again this evening. As soon as I began talking to them (in their cage),in my normal voice,(from in to voice is underlined)M began to perform Tsh's, then uttered several long bursts of DN2's (from long to DN2's is underline) intermingled with Tsh's, then immediately performed two extreme gaping and retching patterns! Hrr also reacted almost as rapidly, but she didn't do anything more than Tsh's and a few preening (?). Upon further testing, I found that the birds reacted in eventually the same way (at least performing Tsh's & pr.(?))to any sound, of any length and any pitch I could produce with my own voice!!! M always reacted more vigorously than Hrr. Still, the high pitched long "Cooooooo"sounds tended to produce the most vigorous reactions in most cases. (?) major, (underlined)I April 20, 1960 Barro Colorado Experimented with the birds again this evening - in exactly the same way as on April 17.
