(?) major, (underlined), I June 18, 1960 28 Barro, Colorado I have had little time to look at M & Hrr since I came back, but I did make some observations of them on June 11, and again on June 15. They seem to be about 3/4 grown now. Their behavior has changed a little, but not very much. They are both somewhat shy of me now. So much so that I have not dared to take them out of their cage for walks. They always to TV now, when I first approach their cage. They soon relax, but tend to resume TV if I make any sudden movement. I have not seen them perform any TVC since my return. This would indicate that the TVC is indefinitely a juvenile pattern. The sequence of development of this pattern, during (?)is this simple unritualized - TVC- TV. On June 11, M uttered a few DN's when I first spoke to her right after entering the cage. On June 15, she did not utter DN's when I spoke to her, but did utter 2 or 3 DN's when I touched her back. As far as I could ell, there DN's were just the same as they were before I went to Ecuador. On both days, I tried uttering "Ooooooo" sounds again, to see the reactions of both birds. On June 11, M reacted much sooner and more vigorously than Hrr. M first reacted by performing Tsh's (as before, and then (?)gaping & (?) movements as the intensity of her reaction increased, as I continued uttering "Oooooooo" sounds of increasing loudness.
