(?) major,(underlined) I June 28, 1960 30 Barro Colorado Watched M & Hrr again today, and then led a little (?) with them. They still perform TV (not TVC) at the slightest (underlined) disturbance - whenever someone or something approaches their cage or they hear some strange sound from the forest. I could not provoke any sound from either bird, either by talking, or poking or picking up either bird. Hrr started to perform Tsh's when I first began to talk to him, in my normal voice, using normal words. But M did not. When I started to utter "Oooooooo" sounds. Both birds reacted quite vigorously, but I spent most of my time watching M. I uttered several distinct bursts of "Oooooooo" sounds. M's reactions to 4 separate bursts were as follows: 1. (underlined) Several Tsh's - 1 PAG -several Tsh's -1 Gape (without (?) movements) - 1 General Ruffle & Shake -(?) - several Tsh's. 2. (underlined) Several Tsh's - several preening movements - brief and low intensity indication of TV. 3. (underlined) Several Tsh's - 1 PAG -several Tsh's - 1 General Ruffle & Shake. 4. (underlined) Several Tsh's - 1 tail-waggle - several Tsh's - 1 PAG & Bill-wipe - several Tsh's - 1 PAG - Bill-wipe - several Tsh's - gaping and (?) movements - Several Tsh's. The only time I watched Hrr intently while uttering "Ooooooo" sounds, he did several Tsh's - followed by a great many feeding (underlined from followed to feeding)
