(?) major (underlined) Aug. 14, 1960, III. side cage of M and Hrr. A and B immediately went down into TVC's. Hrr also briefly in TVC and/or TV, but relaxed and stood normally (his TVC and/or TV may well have been a reaction to me rather than to the 2 new birds.)M, however, reacted much more violently and (?). As soon as A and B were introduced, M went into extreme TV, fixating the newcomers intently. Her TV was comme ca: [Image of bird drawn here] Quite like a turkey or grouse with a ridiculously short tail Notice effect of wings (this is quite (?) I am by no means sure that the legs were always flexed, (perhaps they were not flexed most of the time.) In this extreme TV, M uttered 2 long plaintive whistles!!! There were quite like the common whistles of wild birds in the forest, in tonal quality, but they were probably softer than all or most of the whistles I have heard uttered by wild birds. (I shall call all whistles "W", and double whistles "DW.") M stayed in this TV, moving hardly at all, for at least 10-20 seconds. Twice more, she uttered DW's, just as before. (I think she uttered all (?) DW's with the bill absolutely loud.)
