Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meetings, 1907-1919

About the Project

Do you wonder what issues capture a museum board members attention? The Proceedings of the Smithsonian's Board of Regents are a window into the issues they have focused on in the past. Between 1907 and 1919, the world saw major progress in science, politics and industry. It also experienced World War I. Among other things, the Regents decided the Smithsonian should lobby Congress to authorize the Smithsonian Langley Aerodynamical Laboratory and to establish an advisory committee to provide guidance to the country's aviation pioneers. Join our volunteers in transcribing these meeting minutes to learn more about this effort and other topics that came before the Smithsonian's Regents.
