Western Union Telegraph Expedition - Reports of Collins S. Macrae, 1866 and 1867

About the Project

Lieutenant Collins S. Macrae was hours away from departing on an assignment east across the Bering Sea from Sitka to Siberia when he discovered vital supplies had not been allocated to his party. As the party's commander, how was he to proceed? Was this a hint of hardships to come? In these reports, Macrae records the details of his team's progress, its obstacles and the solutions considered for Major Abasa, head of the Expedition's Asiatic Division. Join us and other volunpeers on this project and learn if the team was more than equal to the adversity and obstacles they faced.
