Painter and teacher William Cushing Loring (1879-1959) was best known for his portraits. He lived and studied in Paris and London during 1900-1904. He studied at the Académie Colarossi and the Académie Delécluse in Paris, and was appointed head of the painting and drawing department at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1905. He also taught at La Salle Junior College in Auburn, Massachusetts, from 1921 to 1939.
