[[left margin]](10)[[/left margin]]  Before reaching these Bluffs we discovered four Tchuctchu "Yaromgers" or huts, upon the opposite side of the river, which is here more than a mile in width, and soon saw two Cidaskas approaching.

As the Tchuctchus stepped on the raft, one of them was pointed out to me as the man, who had treated Lieut Kennan so kindly last winter, during his Exploration of the Anadgr, and had furnished him, without compensation, deer for dog food.

I told him I had heard of his generosity and presented him with a little tea, powder and tobacco, with which he was highly satisfied. I also gave each of the others a little tobacco.
[[left margin]](20)[[/left margin]] They had come to invite us to their tents to eat with them as every thing was prepared for our reception, having heard of our approach from a Kosak, who had preceded us from the mouth of the Bailey. Not wishing to disappoint them we tied up a short distance below, they assisting the men at the sweeps.

When we arrived at their tents, which were very filthy, our appetites deserted us and we excused ourselves from eating, but the men made a very successful attack upon a huge pile of deer heads, that were brought in steaming in a large wooden tray.
