My dear Francis
It is good to begin to hear again from you, for it was over ten days that I did not hear a word. So the work with M. Cadman is over! I hope it has left no stained feeling between you and him. Evidently Mr. C. is not methodical. There has been indication of that in many little ways — his torn bits of paper when he sends clippings and other evidences one could cite. It must have been trying to have your notes disturbed, but I presume you were able to prevent any real damage. It would seem as tho. Mr. C. was nervous. Of course the machine is trying  You remember how it used to affect Prof Fillmore. It caused him great suffering at times, so that work became an impossibility.
