Have just received and corrected a batch of plate proofs from Mr. Gurley. I wish you would ask him to let you look them over. Two plates are all wrong as to position; those of the sacred pole and the sacred buffalo hide. I'd like to have you look at the others too. I've added the names to the Ponca and Osage pictures but I did not treat the Omaha pictures in that way so you had better look them over. The printer I expect fooled with some of the legends, — particularly that of the picture of Rabbit, calling him "the Elderly Suiter." We haven't time to fool that way. The proofs I suppose will reach Gurley about the same time you get this letter.

Hope you are well. God bless you.

My dear M,
Have received yours of May 1, yesterday. Was all day in camp and had some talks with the Kaws visiting there and from the short talk I had with them I have got to thinking that much valuable material could be gathered from them which would throw further light on the religious customs and the name systems of the three tribes. I am now beginning to understand more clearly the Kaw dialect and when I work among them as I hope to do I shall find it less difficult to get along with them than I have with the Osages. It looks as though they still have some of their sacred packs and I would like to get hold of some specimens.

I hope Mr. Hodge will grant Cadman's request. I do not think it would harm
