Mr. and Mrs. Oliver W. Powers
Pound, Virginia

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Powers:

I enclose clippings from the Washington Star and the New York Times with respect to the testimony given by your son before an open session of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The crowd was so great that many had to be turned away.

He made a splendid appearance and spoke for nearly an hour without notes. At the conclusion practically every member of the Armed Services Committee commended him. As a Virginian I was very proud of the fine showing he made. He had a most difficult situation but he met it manfully and like a true American.

I hope I may meet both of you sometime and have the opportunity to congratulate you on the record of your son.

With kindest regards and best wishes, I am
Faithfully yours,
Harry F. Byrd
