To prevent splitting, place this area in boiling water for ten minutes before deep bending.

This piece should be a straight [[underlined]] green [[/underlined]] sapling about 8' long that doesn't vary much in diameter.
Lash two braces onto the frame to properly shape the toe section as shown. Indians used rawhide strips. (You man use strong twine for lashing).

Lash the two pieces making up the heel section to the toe section like this.

Lash on Five additional braces as shown here.
Use about 1/8" twine.
Smaller end of the center brace here.
With a yard stick or similar straight edge line up holes for the lacing of the cross cords.
Bore holes 1" apart and 1/4" in diameter.
Basket weave sections of twine length-wise like this until the entire area within the frame is woven. Securely tie each end of each section as you weave.

Tighten and lash all twine while wet...it shrinks while drying to make your job a snug one.
With paint brush cover all of frame braces and twine with 3 coast of shellac.
Note how ends of straps are passed through the slots in each strap. This is an Indian Buckle.
From this point on the braces sew on adjustable straps to fit across instep.
Notch the braces so the straps stay in place.
Sew onto the braces a leather strap to fit across the toe like this.
From this point on the braces, sew a strap to fit around the heel.
