Place your piece (or pieces) of pottery to be fired on a flat stone. The flat stone should be slightly larger than the widest part of your piece.

Arrange four more flat stones in this manner to form four walls around your piece like this.

Place a fifth flat stone on top of the four stones forming the sides to form a top like this.

Arrange four large logs around the stone enclosure like this. (TO DRIVE THE HEAT AGAINST THE ROCKS).

LEAVE THE CORNERS OPEN FOR A DRAFT

Build a fire in the space between the stones and the logs. Keep building the fire up with wood until the fire partially covers the stones. Keep this fire going for about 6 hours. Keep hot coals moved against the stones, and keep the ashes well removed.
