SPRINGFIELD'S HISTORY

The Springfield Chapter of Girl Friends, sponsored by the New Haven Chapter, was installed on September 5, 1935. Lillian Franklin Jones, founder of the twelve-member chapter was the first president.

Since inception, Springfield has had three conclaves, three executive meetings and three national officers, Hazel Brandrum, National Vice President, Helen Vick Clarkson, National Secretary and Josephine Edmonds, National Vice President. Maude Boone and Nelle Greene have the distinction of being the two charter members.

The chapter is engaged in numerous civic projects that include giving annual scholarships, an annual Valentine party for the Hurstdale Nursing Home residents, Thanksgiving baskets to the needy, support to the Urban League, NAACP and other worthwhile causes.
