Red & Yellow Bus
Massachusetts
February 16, 1947

Dear folks,

Today was [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] gloomy and dark but I managed to get one sheet dry (didn't dare to wash the other, tho' I might have) when the sun looked out once. Grandma is well as usual, but as I stayed upstairs studying most of the day I didn't see much of her. Maude, of course, I visited. She reports that Bobby got another A in arithmetic & Barry made the honor roll (or vice versa): Florence is expecting a baby in the spring; Bertha is back, but hasn't taken her out; no more babies until Dr Golden gets back from Fla.; she is about the only one on the floor & feels quite disconsolate.

The bus I was to take out to Stoughton Saturday broke down, & while waiting for it to be repaired Isabel & I discovered we had been standing looking at each other for about 15 minutes! She is working for a firm in Back Bay; a grinding job with little recreation time. I only recognized her hair; otherwise she is dressed a woman and her face has lost much youthful roundness. I [[strikethrough]] went [[/strikethrough]] stopped in a minute to see the Leonards. Little Penny took to me right away & heaped her toys and blankets all over me as I sat on the floor. Isabel seems very grown, indeed, with almost a mature voice also.

Didn't have time for Mabel or Norma. Mabel hasn't attended church for several weeks & Norma has a $65 suit I learned, for your enlightenment, however.
