the old maple stumps scarcely showed life. The girt tree has stoutened much, but there may be a few new gnaws about it - but it is putting up a winning fight.

Mrs. Barry was nice to give me several of the oranges Grandma speaks of.

I shall insert the following in the middle of my letter, as you are wont to do, since it is of so little real concern, is, shall we say, incidentally. I took Koen to the Junior Prom Friday night, squaring accounts (cost me $3) at last. Evening gown is definitely now no longer white at the bottom. You shall hear more of this in the future; do not worry. Moi, j'ai une programme, et je jouis de la mystère. Ne vous inquietiez pas!

I can never remember, Dad, to tell you when I am short of money: at present I am on 10¢. But Kinne owes me $2, and Jean $1, so I shall subsist until the next installment.

Jean & I went to see (I am doing my best with this pencil) "Les Miserables" last week - 3 hours of melodramatic French movie. Very good however, and moving, with the same element of French heroic you find in "Cyrano." The poor girl with her teeth sold! The dialogue was easy to understand.

Have been studying History madly all day. It is very interesting, of Louis XIV & the English Revolutions - best yet.

Guess you must have had a good party Sunday afternoon. Hope it was as mild & nice as here (wonderful Friday). Tell Dol. I will write someday after History exam.

Sounds from all sources as if Grandma will be remembered by all Stoughton, & I will send a card & bring her some candy next week.

Love,
Doris
