Status of Legislation

H.R. 6125 and S. 94 to authorize construction of the National Air and Space Museum.

Mr. Burleson, Chairman of the Committee on House Administration, has advised that he is confident that his Committee will report H. R. 6125 to the House with a favorable recommendation. The Committee Clerk, Mr. Langston, advises that the Subcommittee on Library and Memorials, under Chairman Paul C. Jones (Mo.), will report to the full Committee during the first week in June and that the Committee on House Administration under Mr. Burleson (Tex.) should report the bill to the House promptly thereafter.

In the Senate S. 94 has been referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration, Senator Jordan (N. Carolina), Chairman. Mr. Biddle, Assistant to Senator Pell (R.I.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Smithsonian Institution, advises that the Subcommittee will take up S. 94 as soon as the Subcommittee completes its report on a bill to authorize a National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities. This action is expected near the end of May or in early June.

It may be recalled that the Senate passed the Air Museum legislation last year.
