On board the Lexington - up the coast
at 7 P.M. 15 June 1934

Dear Sid:

Here we are safe thus far! The cat uttered one long fearful yowl, similar to the yowl she used on greeting the old Tom some weeks ago, as soon as the train started. The baby was in ecstasy on it. "I couldn't believe it was the cat!" she exclaimed. But after that all was quiet. And not a peep was heard the rest of the long way. We were nearly 20 minutes late, but the bus from Jersey City goes right by the wharf and I had no way at all to walk, and we were on the boat 15 minutes ahead of time, got our stateroom, ate the rest of our sandwiches, and walked the harbor from in back of the boat. The basket gave a welcoming "per up" when we returned from several short trips outside. And at the last trip, I opened it up, and now the cat is stretching out all length on the berth lapping herself and at intervals yawning. She seems very contented. I forgot to say that the old colored deck man on the boat when I told him the basket contained a kitten, said winking, "I guess you might take it to your stateroom. We have several days in here." The baby says, "the cat is gently purring". Both of them are as happy and at home as can be here.
