purposes. The building is 50 X 30 feet & 12 feet parts. The building enclosed with rough boards & battened. The Baptists, have put up their Bell upon the house & put in Some Leats which they had in another building, and are anxious to get possession of the keys. Thus for, the Baptist church has done very little [[?]] toward the house, but have assumed the right to direct in regard to it. When the enterprise was first started, the proposition was made that the colored people should raise $200, toward the building; and the two young ladies who have been teaching in Meridian the past two years, made an effort to raise the money, & obtained subscriptions to the amount of $240. with the expectation that they could occupy the house when completed and so for as I could learn this was the understanding of the subscribers. Of this $240., the Baptists, Black and White subscribers less than thirty Dollars. The balance was that of it Subscriber by members of the Col M.P. Church. Between sixty and seventy dollars has been paid and is now in the hands of the aforesaid young ladies. Of this sum, the Baptists have paid $6.75. The Lot is deeded to the three colored men; one Pastor & the other deacons of the colored Baptist ch. for the use
