Charleston S.C., August 30th 1869 Major I went over May St-school House with Miss Wyne on saturday & allso went there this morning the following is what she pointed out to me as the alterations to be made. The two pair of front stairs to have the lower part where they make a very quick wind taken away & continued out so as to make the steps easier to do this two Two closets will have to come away to do This will cost fifty dollars. To replace the two closets taken away they want two book cases each about seven ft wide & eight ft high each above & panel doors below which will cost about seventy dollars. In the rear of 3d floor there wants to be about twenty ft of lath & Plaster Partition Put up with door & fanlight to correspond with the others allso to cover over one of the stairways to do this will cost 60 dollars. The stairs & Partition are the most essential the former requiring something of a good job to make them strong & easy rise. Awaiting your answer I Remain Yours &c P.P. Toale To Major E.L.
